Apple plans to produce about two million Watch 2s every month when the updated smartphone goes on sale this fall.
(CCM) — Apple expects its second generation Apple Watch 2 to be far more popular than the original and is anticipating huge sales when the smartwatch goes on sale as early as September, according to a DigiTimes report. In recent weeks, the company has been busy placing orders for components for the new watch with part makers in Asia, but the sheer scale of Apple's shopping spree has taken some observers by surprise. Given the size of Apple's orders, it appears that the company is preparing to make about two million second generation Apple Watches a month.
At Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) earlier this week, the company announced a new version of watchOS, the Apple Watch's operating system. WatchOS 3 promises much higher performance so that Watch apps will open almost instantly. New features include several new watch faces, a messaging feature called Scribble that allows users to write quick messages using their finger, and an SOS feature that allows users to contact emergency services with a single button press.
