HP has announced a low-cost Chromebook that features touchscreen and offers up to 11 hours of battery life.
(CCM) — HP continues to expand its line of Chromebook offerings with the announcement of a new compact touchscreen model. The HP Chromebook 11 G5 has an 11.6-inch diagonal screen and offers up to 11 hours of battery life. The device is powered by a Celeron N3060 processor and weighs just over 2.5 lbs. A lower cost version without touchscreen, offering 12.5 hours battery life and priced at $189, has also been announced.
Chromebooks run Google's Chrome OS operating system and connect to the Internet to access applications and data stored in the cloud. They are becoming increasingly popular because of their low cost, their long battery life, and because they are not susceptible to many common malware infections. In the first quarter of this year, about 2 million Chromebooks were shipped, outweighing Apple Mac computer sales for the first time, according to research from IDC. This popularity is likely to increase later in the year, when Google is expected to announce compatibility between Chrome OS and the Android mobile operating system, enabling Chromebooks to run more than 2 million Android apps that are currently available in the Google Play store.
