The Windows 10 Anniversary Update will bring new features and security enhancements when it lands on Aug. 2.
(CCM) — Windows 10 will receive a major update on Aug. 2, Microsoft has finally revealed. The Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which will provide a deluge of new features for consumers and business users, will be available to over 350 million devices around the world that are running Windows 10, according to Microsoft.
One new feature, Windows Ink, allows users to handwrite virtual sticky notes, sketch on a screenshot, or draw custom routes on a map. Another new feature is a beefed up Cortana assistant that can perform actions or answer questions directly from a device's lock screen and remember important information, such as a frequent flier number or the location of a user's car. Gamers will be able to use Cortana on Xbox One to accomplish common tasks, including turning on the console by saying, "Hey Cortana, Xbox On." Microsoft's Edge browser will also be updated so that it can finally run extensions, such as Pinterest's Pin It Button, AdBlock Plus, and LastPass. The operating system will also receive new security features, including the ability to log in to web sites using the operating system's Windows Hello biometric authentication service and to schedule automatic quick PC scans using Microsoft's Windows Defender anti-malware service.
