Google's new "flip-to-Hindi" button will allow users in India to get search results in their native language.
Read in Hindi
(CCM) — Internet giant Google has rolled out a new feature that will allow users in select Hindi-speaking states of India to get their search results in Hindi even after typing in English. The feature works nearly identically to a standard Google search, whereby users can enter their search queries into the engine (in English), and the tool will generate results in both English and Hindi on the same page. Users can then flip the tabs to read the search results in either language. In a statement on their blog, product manager for Google India's international search operations, Shekhar Sharad, noted, "You may search for samachar (the Hindi word for 'news') in English, but you would be better served with results of the Hindi [search] 'समाचार'. This works not just for samachar but all queries."
In India, many users can read and understand Hindi but have some difficulty when it comes to typing. This new button will allow them to better understand their search results and find what they're looking for much more easily. The "flip-to-Hindi" feature is available in Bihar, Chattisgarh, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Rajasthan, Delhi, and West Bengal states of the country. The feature is available on iOS and Android-based mobile phones and is compatible with all browsers, with the exception of UCBrowser and Opera Mini.
