The mid-range IDOL 4S smartphone from Alcatel will ship with bundled virtual reality goggles starting tomorrow.
(CCM) — Alcatel has sweetened its latest smartphone offering with the addition of a bundled virtual reality headset. North America's fourth-biggest phone maker unveiled its flagship IDOL 4S Android handset at Mobile World Congress in February. Yesterday, the company announced that the phone will be sold in a virtual reality bundle, which includes the phone, virtual reality goggles, JBL headphones, a protective case, and a tempered glass screen protector. The bundle will become available for pre-order on Friday for $349.99 and is expected to ship in early August.
The IDOL 4S is a mid-range smartphone that works only on GSM networks, such as AT&T and T-Mobile, and is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 662 processor and an Adreno 510 GPU, which supports 4K video capture. It has a 5.5-inch AMOLED display and comes with 3 GB RAM and 32 GB storage, although this can be expanded to 256 GB storage with the addition of a microSD card. The handset ships with Android 6.01 Marshmallow, and Alcatel has pledged that, at some point in the future, it will be upgradable to Android 7.0 Nougat, which will be released later this summer.
