Spotify has announced a new Gaming category that features popular songs that appear in video games.
(CCM) — On Friday, Spotify announced a new Gaming section, which features original video game soundtracks as well as curated playlists. Video game music and soundtracks that are currently getting spotlight on the streaming service include Grand Theft Auto, Halo, Call of Duty: Black Ops III, and Madden NFL, with playlists contributed from online tastemakers and publications alike going by names like Power Gaming, RetroWave, and Top Gaming Tracks. "Whether you’re jumping down tubes as an Italian plumber, battling hordes of evil enemies, or playing Barcelona at the Camp Nou, we [sic] got you covered with the perfect soundtrack," the company said in a press release. Spotify's Gaming category can be found in the "Browse" section across all platforms, including iOS, Android, PlayStation, and desktop versions starting today.
Spotify's foray into video game music is only one of the company's several attempts to broaden its horizons in recent months. In March, Facebook announced that it would be adding Spotify sharing to Messenger for iOS and Android, and in January, Spotify shared news that it would be integrating video into its streaming service.
