The home rental site is in the testing stages of a new feature that will help travelers to fully plan their trips.
(CCM) — Airbnb wants to be more than just an home rental service. The vacation rental site is seeking to broaden its horizons with a new service dubbed Airbnb Trips, which will help travelers plan their trips by offering recommendations for what to see and do in and around their destinations. "When people go to a place, they want much more than just a home. They want to be part of a neighborhood," said Airbnb's CEO, Brian Chesky, in an interview with Bloomberg. "And what we are really focused on doing is, how can we immerse you into a neighborhood?" In addition to aiding travelers with their bookings, Airbnb Trips is expected to offer suggestions that include everything from restaurants and shops, to historical sites, and even cultural events, bringing travel planning to one clean, comprehensive platform. The beauty of the application lies in its bringing together of both local and touristy offerings.
Airbnb Trips is currently in its testing stage and appears to have been distributed to only a handful of Android users at this time. In the meantime, the company will continue to focus its energy on the international expansion of its basic services, citing China, India, and Latin America as key areas of interest. Although the future of Airbnb Trips is still uncertain, Chesky is very optimistic about the outlook. According to Chesky, "Tests are going really, really well."
