Nintendo plans to release a new Pokémon-inspired 3DS XL system to coincide with the release of two new games.
(CCM) — Nintendo announced that it would be releasing a brand new system, called the 3DS XL, to preclude the release of its highly anticipated Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon games. The limited-edition system comes in a sleek black color and features both of the new Legendary Pokémon, Solgaleo and Lunala, on the cover — an ode to the fact that this year marks the Pokémon series' 20th anniversary. According to Business Wire reports, the console's release date is set for Oct. 8, with the games that inspired it expected to hit shelves three weeks later. Nintendo will release the game system at a suggested price point of $199.99.
The release of the 3DS XL is not the only move that has been made in recent weeks seemingly as an effort capitalize on the explosive success of Pokémon GO. Last week, Niantic announced that it would be releasing the Pokémon GO Plus, a wristband that allows players to interact with the game without needing to look at their smartphone screens the entire time. The device is set to appear in stores this week.
