Sony's long-awaited PlayStation VR has finally gone up for pre-order.
(CCM) — Sony has finally put its PlayStation VR (PSVR) up for pre-orders, three years after it first announced the device. While exciting, the PSVR has already received criticism for its steep price tag; at $549.99, it retails for nearly $150 more than Sony's original price target. For that price, users can expect a VR headset, a processor unit, stereo earphones, a VR demo disc, as well as the required cables and accessories. The good news is that the devices will begin ship almost immediately — starting on Oct. 13, users will be shipped their pre-ordered devices.
The headset has a 5.7-inch, 120Hz OLED screen with a resolution of 1920×1080, with lenses that give a field of view of 100 degrees. In all, the headset weighs in at 610 grams. Unfortunately, in order to take advantage of the headtracking feature, users need to purchase the PS4 Camera separately, which will cost them another $67. The official launch date of the PSVR is also set for Oct. 13.
