Facebook's new feature lets users share advice about events and local businesses with their friends.
(CCM) — On Wednesday, Facebook announced that it would be rolling out a new feature for its users called "Recommendations." The new addition to the social network allows users to request advice from their network about local businesses and events as well as share some tips of their own. When creating a Facebook post, users now have the option to turn on "Recommendations" for that post, on which their friends can comment with suggestions. The comments left by their friends are then be mapped out and saved in one place. Users can also opt to go to the new Recommendations bookmark to either ask a question or answer one from a friend.
"Whether traveling to a new place, looking for a hair salon, or searching for the perfect place to eat, people already turn to their friends, family, and local Groups on Facebook for advice. [This is a] tool that makes it easier to get and organize all those recommendations in one place," Facebook wrote in the blog post introducing the update. In the same post, Facebook unveiled the integration of the ability to order food, request an appointment, get a business quote, and buy tickets to movies and events — all from within the app. The U.S. was the first to receive the new features, but Facebook has expressed plans to expand its target in the future.
