Apple's long-delayed wireless earbuds will hit the shelves in 2016, according to sources.
(CCM) — Apple's AirPod wireless earbuds will be available before the end of the year and may even be on sale in time for Christmas, according to a Tech Times report. The AirPods were announced in September at the same time that the iPhone 7 and 7 Plus were unveiled, and at the time, the company said that they would be available in October. But at the end of October, Apple announced that their launch would be delayed, saying: "We don't believe in shipping a product before it's ready, and we need a little more time before AirPods are ready for our customers." Rumors from suppliers in China suggested that the wireless earbuds would not be launched before 2017, but the Tech Times report quotes sources close to Apple who say that AirPods will hit the shelves in 2016.
Apple would doubtless like to make its AirPods available in time for the holiday shopping period to capture a share of the profitable gift market. The company removed the standard 3.5mm headphone jack in both of the new iPhone models, and AirPods provide users with an alternative to headphones that plug in to the iPhone's Lightning port either directly or via a 3.5 mm-to-Lightning adapter.
