Nougat Comes to Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge

Samsung's Galaxy Beta Program offers S7 users the chance to try out Android 7.0 Nougat.

(CCM) — Android 7.0 Nougat is finally making its way onto Samsung's Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge smartphones, some three months after the latest version of the Google's operating system was released. Samsung is offering Galaxy owners the opportunity to preview the new features of Android 7.0 Nougat ahead of its official launch on the devices through what it calls its Galaxy Beta Program. The program is currently open to Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge users in the U.S., U.K., and Korea, and users in China will be able to sign up for the program shortly. Participation is limited, and applicants will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Samsung has not yet announced how long the program will run in each country.

The Samsung news coincides with reports that Chinese phone-maker OnePlus intends to make a beta version of Android 7.0 Nougat available to owners of its flagship OnePlus 3 device later this month, with a finished version available as an over-the-air (OTA) update before the end of the year. Google released Android 7.0 Nougat in August, but so far, only a handful of phones can run it, including Google's Nexus and Pixel handsets and LG's V20 smartphone.
