Spotify and Waze Team Up on Android

Android users can listen to Spotify playlists easily while using Waze thanks to a new partnership.

(CCM) — Waze and Spotify have teamed up to make daily commutes and other types of car journeys more musical. Thanks to the new partnership, users of the Waze navigation app can access and play Spotify playlists directly from Waze, and Spotify users can start navigating with Waze directly from Spotify. Users can also switch between one app and the other with a single tap — although for safety reasons this feature is restricted so that it can only be used when the car is stationary. "No more awkward flipping back-and-forth between apps or ending your favorite Friday-in-traffic tune to find the quickest way to the grocery store," Waze said in a blog post making the announcement.

To take advantage of the new partnership, users need to have both the Waze and Spotify apps installed on their mobile device. From the Waze app a Spotify icon is visible, and tapping on this icon opens Spotify and the last song listened to starts playing automatically while Waze navigation continues. From the Spotify app a Waze icon is displayed at the top of the Spotify drive mode screen. A single tap starts navigation while the music continues to play in the background. This new functionality will start to roll out to Android users over the next few weeks, and to iOS users at an unspecified later date.
