Emoji 5.0 is a set of 69 new emoji in draft form which are slated for go into service this summer.
(CCM) — Broccoli, a giraffe, gloves, and a woman breast feeding a baby are all included in a new set of 69 draft emoji released by for consideration, Tech Times reports. The new set, called Emoji 5.0, also includes groups of similar emoji with different skin tones and of both genders. Since they are in draft status, individual emoji may be changed or even dropped before Emoji 5.0 is released this summer as a Unicode standard. This will be adopted by common messenger apps, email clients, and social media services. In December 2016, Apple released more than 100 new emoji of its own for use on iOS. These included male and female versions of jobs including firefighter and judge.
As well as people-oriented emoji such as vampires, elves, genies, and zombies, Emoji 5.0 includes many random objects such as a brain, a coat, a dumpling, and a flying saucer. Emoji originated in Japan, where the name means "picture character." The first ones were created in 1998 or 1999 for use with NTT DoCoMo's i-mode mobile internet platform. Now an estimated 6 billion emoji are sent in messages around the world every day.
