Spotify Debuting on Apple Watch

The music-streaming giant is working with an independent developer to create an app for the Apple Watch.

(CCM) — Spotify is finally getting an official app for the Apple Watch. The company has roped in Andrew Chang to lead the effort. Earlier, Chang created an unofficial third-party companion app for Spotify, "Spotty" for the Apple Watch.

Chang named the app as "Spotty," but he was approached by Spotify to change the name as it sounded similar to "Spotify." Later, Chang was again contacted by Spotify to offer him a position to work closely with the company. He was approached to develop the official Spotify companion app for the Apple Watch.

Spotify was impressed by Chang's "Spotty" app, which was developed with the help of just an SDK. In his post on Reddit, Chang wrote: "I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be working closely with Spotify to bring Snowy to the Apple Watch as part of an official Spotify iOS app… I can’t wait to take things to the next level with the expertise and tools available at Spotify."

For now, the details are scarce regarding the official launch of the app. But we can expect it on the App Store soon.
