Amazon's new Echo device lets users take photos and videos of themselves in different outfits.
(CCM) — Alexa can now help the style-conscious look their very best thanks to Echo Look, a new intelligent assistant device that comes in the form of a hands-free camera. The Look allows a user to take full-length photos and short videos of themselves — enhanced by the device's built-in LED lighting when necessary — using just their voice. They can then see themselves from every angle using the companion smartphone app.
The Look uses computer vision to recognize the user and provide background blur to ensure that outfits "pop," the company says. Different ensembles can be collected into a "personal lookbook" which is designed to help keep track of when each outfit was last worn, to make packing for travel easier, and to enable the Look to recommend new brands and styles.
Once a user has taken pictures of themselves wearing two different outfits, they can submit them to a new Amazon service called Style Check. This combines machine learning algorithms with advice from fashion specialists to provide a recommendation about which outfit to wear. The Look also provides the same features as Amazon's other Echo devices, including reading the news, providing weather updates, and streaming music from Spotify or Amazon Music.
The Echo Look is currently available to customers by invitation only, priced at $199.
