Nintendo says that Super Mario Odyssey will be available for its Switch game system in time for Thanksgiving.
(CCM) — A new Super Mario game will be hitting Nintendo Switch owners' screens on October 27, 2017, the company announced at the E3 games show in Los Angeles. The launch of Super Mario Odyssey is likely to provide a huge sales boost during the Thanksgiving and holiday seasons. The title is available to pre-order now.
Nintendo previewed some gameplay from Super Mario Odyssey which included Mario facing a dinosaur, traveling though a Mexican-themed land, and turning into a mustached turtle armed with a frying pan. Mario's famous plumber's cap is now an independent character that can fly around by itself.
The company also previewed new Zelda add-on packs: The Master Trials and The Champion's Ballad. They also announced a Kirby game for the device, which will be released next year. It also showed a demo of Rocket League, a car-based game which has already been released to critical acclaim on other consoles. The Nintendo version will have new cars that are exclusive to the platform, although no details about the new vehicles were provided.
The Switch hybrid handheld and console device has already been highly profitable for Nintendo. Thanks to sales of more than 2.7 million units in the four weeks after it went on sale in March 2017, it has become the Japanese company's fastest selling hardware product ever. However, the Switch got off to a troubled start when many users reported that the left-hand controller often had problems connecting wirelessly to the system.
