The English version of Samsung's Bixby has run into unforeseen problems and won't be released in the near future.
(CCM) — Samsung has been forced to abandon its plan to release an English-speaking version of its Bixby intelligent assistant this summer because it has struggled to get enough data for it to learn from, The Korea Herald is reporting. The company had previously promised that the English version would be released in May. "Developing Bixby in other languages is taking more time than we expected mainly because of the lack of the accumulation of big data," a Samsung spokesperson told the publication.
But another cause is also being blamed for the delay: the difficulties experienced by U.S.-based engineers working with managers working in South Korea. "Many engineers in the U.S. are making full efforts to develop the English version," an anonymous source told The Korea Herald. "But, due to geographical and language barriers, their frequent reports to and communication with the management located in Korea makes the progress much slower than developing the Korean version here."
Bixby is predicted to become the second most popular intelligent assistant with a 14.5% market share (after Google Assistant, on 23.3%), according to London-based consultancy Ovum.
