Cuphead, an Xbox One and PC platform game that uses 1930s animation techniques, finally hits the shelves today.
(CCM) — After seven years in development, the hugely anticipated "run and gun" platform game Cuphead is finally being released today. Despite not previously being available, the game won the IGN Best Xbox One Game at the E3 Award in 2015.
Cuphead is the first game created by StudioMDHR Entertainment and is inspired by the surreal and subversive cartoons of the 1930s. The game has been created in a similar way, with traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and a soundtrack that features original jazz recordings. However Cuphead runs at 60 frames per second (fps), while cartoons in the 1930s would have run at 24 fps, and has been developed using the Unity game engine.
Players take on the role of Cuphead or Mugman in single player or local co-operative mode as they traverse strange worlds, acquire new weapons, learn powerful super moves, and discover hidden secrets.
Cuphead is for the Xbox One game console and Windows 10 PCs, priced at $19.99. Versions for MacOS and Linux may be made available at some point in the future.
