Microsoft's new Surface Pro offers blisteringly-fast LTE internet connectivity all around the world.
(CCM) — Microsoft has unveiled a new Surface Pro tablet with a superfast connection to the internet, at its Future Decoded conference in London.
The new Surface Pro with LTE Advanced offers an always-on connection capable of download speeds of up to 450 mbps, according to the company. To achieve this the tablet is equipped with a Cat 9 Qualcomm X16 Gigabit Class LTE modem with support for 20 cellular bands, which means that the tablet can be used on 4G networks almost anywhere in the world. The modem features seven antennas and is built into the motherboard to ensure fast initiation when the tablet emerges from sleep or hibernation modes.
Microsoft says that it expects the battery to support 17 hours of video playback, although with an LTE connection in use the battery life is likely to be less. The base version of the new Surface Pro has an Intel i5 processor, 4 GB RAM, a 128 GB SSD, and is priced at $1,149. A premium version with twice the RAM and SSD storage is priced at $1,449.
Both will be available to purchase before the end of the year.
