OnePlus 3 and 3T owners will start receiving OxygenOS 5.0, based on Android 8.0 Oreo, as an OTA update.
(CCM) — OnePlus has announced that its long-awaited Android 8.0 Oreo update for its OnePlus 3 and 3T smartphones has finally started to roll out to users. Most should be able to download it as an over-the-air (OTA) update within the next few days. The operating system was launched on August 21, 2017, but only for Google's Pixel and Nexus devices.
The OxygenOS 5.0 software, which is built on Android 8.0 Oreo, includes many new features including "Parallel Apps," which allows users to run two versions of the same app at once, and "Picture in Picture," which lets users watch a video in a small area of the screen while running a different app at the same time. It also offers a number of text handling enhancements such as "Auto-fill" and "Smart text selection." In addition, the update includes all the Android security patches released up to September 2017.
In August the company angered many OnePlus 3 and 3T owners by announcing that it would not offer any further major software updates after Android 8.0 Oreo. The move was seen as a way of making these handsets redundant prematurely to encourage owners to upgrade to newer OnePlus handsets, such as the OnePlus 5 and 5T.
