Windows 7 - Disabling the Program Compatibility Assistant

April 2018

Issue

This feature is driving me crazy, each time I'm installing a program, it getting the following warning message:
"If this program didn't install correctly, try reinstalling using settings that are compatible with this version of Windows"

Upon clicking on the "This program installed correctly" some of them will work perfectly, but others wouldn't (desktop freezed)?

Solution

  • To disable the Program Compatibility Assistant:
  • Click on Start> type services.msc
  • Down in the list seach for the Program Compatibility Assistant entry
  • Double click on it.
  • A new window shall open, for the "Startup Type" select "Disabled"
