Windows XP - Always unload DLL from memory

April 2018

Under Windows Xp, upon opening a program, its related DLL are loaded in the memory.
The main problem is that upon closing the program not all of the Dlls are removed and this may slow down your system.

To avoid this issue:
  • Open the registry (Start >Run > regedit)
  • Go to:
    • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/Current/Version/Explorer
  • Double click on the "AlwaysUnloadDll" and set its value to 1.
  • Close the registry editor and restart your PC.
