Unable to install Microsoft Office 2007

Upon installing Microsoft Office 2007 on Windows XP, I'm getting the following error message
"An error occurred during the installation of Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2007. The Windows Installer service can not update one or more protected Windows files."
In fact the following error:"Windows installer service can not update one or more protected Windows files" occurs because some files are missing from your computer
  • The files you are missing is in the FP40EXT.CAB archive contained in the I386 of your Windows SP2 installation disk
  • So you must extract the files from the archive FP40EXT.CAB archive, then copy them into "C:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\40\bin"
  • From there you can resume your installation.
