MacOSX Lion - Disabling the Character Accent Menu

The character accent menu is a new feature available under MacOSX Lion.
Its a small popup that will display accents related to a specific key (Press the and hold the key for the menu to be displayed).

To disable this feature:
  • Open a terminal and type the following command:
    • defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool NO
  • To set it back to its default state:
    • defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool YES
