You want to format your hard drive, but before proceeding you would like to save all your device drivers. An alternative is to download each driver from manufacturers website, but this can be a tiresome and lengthy process, specially when dealing with laptops and custom built PCs. The best solution is to make use of a software to backup all your drivers before formatting your PC.
The software needed
You can use Windrivers Ghost but it's not free:
In the freeware list of retrieving drivers, there are 3 software:
DriverMax : http://ccm.net/faq/sujet 1763 back up of your drivers with drivermax
Driver Magician Lite : http://ccm.net/download/download 121 driver magician lite
Double Driver: http://ccm.net/download/download 1681 double driver
They can backup all drivers in a folder of your choice. Concerning DriverMax, reinstallaling the drivers can be done in a few clicks, but for the other ones ,they don't relocate the drivers automatically after installation of Windows (so, you must do so manually one after the other)..
