Creating a forum with phpBB

You want to add a forum on your site and you have no idea how? phpBB is what you need.

Important note: This FAQ is for those who already have a web host, because to set up the forum, you must have an FTP server on which upload the folder containing the forum. Installation of a phpBB forum protocol requires PHP4 or higher and a MySQL database on your hosting service.

What is phpBB?

phpBB is a "pre-built" forum both open source and free. It is very customizable and easy to use.
Where can I download phpBB?


The latest version: http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/


  • Download and unzip the file.
  • Note that: To unzip, you will need a utility such as WinRAR or WinZip.
  • Change if you want, name the file (right click on the folder > rename).
  • Send the file to your FTP server. For this you can use, for example Filezilla.
  • Go to: www.yourwebsite.com/phpBB3/install/index.php
  • Follow the instructions. After installation, delete the installation folder (install) in your FTP.
  • Your forum is installed and ready for use. You simply have to customize it.
