Windows Vista - Clean the Recent Documents list

Windows Vista stores the list of recently opened files. For privacy reasons, you may want to disable this feature.

Method 1

  • Right click on ''Start or Windows Logo'' on the taskbar then select ''Properties''.
  • On the ''Start Menu'' tab then on ''Privacy''.
  • Uncheck ''Store and display a list of recently opened files''

Method 2

  • Start Menu> Control Panel
  • Search "Folder Options"
  • Check "Show hidden files and folders"
  • Uncheck "Hide extensions and file types is known"
  • Uncheck "Hide protected files of the operating system (recommended)"
  • Go to:
  • C/Users/"Username"/recent
  • Delete the items you want.

Method 3

  • Start Menu> Recent Items> Right click on the items you want to delete.
