Windows XP - Explorer's search feature stopped working

Issue

Each time I try to use the search feature of Windows Explorer, I'm getting the following error messages:
Unexpected error
The action could not be completed

Solution

  • Open the registry (Start > Run > Regedit) and go to:
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace.
  • Look for the following key: {e17d4fc0-5564-11d1-83f2-00a0c90dc849}
  • Name => (By defaut) ; Type => REG_SZ ; Data => Search Result Folder
