Error Message - Steam.Exe (Main Exception) to Run Steam You Must First Connect to the Internet

This short article will explain what to do if you are seeing the following Steam Error Message: Steam.Exe (Main Exception) to Run Steam You Must First Connect to the Internet. This error is typically shown upon attempting to launch Steam.

  • The easiest solution is to temporarily disable the Windows firewall or/and your antivirus preventing any Steam updates.
  • You can also create an exception for "Steam.exe" For your firewall/antivirus.
  • Once done, simply delete the ClientRegistry.blob file located C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam.
  • Launch Steam.
