Windows - Unable to access data on secondary hard drive

Issue

I have removed the primary hard-drive of my old computer and installed it as a "slave" drive on a new computer. Both drives are working properly, but my problem is that, I can't access the following folder F:\Documents and Settings\username, on the secondary hard-drive. The following error message is displayed:
  • "F:\Documents and Settings\username is not accessible. Access is denied"

Solution

Try this procedure
  • In Explorer, right click the drive in question and select Properties
    • On the Security tab click Advanced
  • On the Owner tab
  • Select your account if it isn't already and ceck "Replace owner on sub-containers and objects"
  • Click OK twice (close all dialogs)

This procedure sets you as owner of every folder and file on the drive
  • In Explorer, right click the drive in question and select Properties .
  • On the Security tab add your account if it is not already there and set Full Access.
  • Click Apply.
  • Click Advanced.
  • Check "Replace permission on all child objects with......"
  • Click Apply.

Thanks to xpcman for this tip.
