In 2012, the global average Internet bandwidth was estimated at 2.9 Mb/s. Large disparities exist between different continents. Overview of the different Internet connection speeds in Europe and abroad.
Several units of measurements are used to assess the speed of Internet connection:
- Megabit per second: Mb/s,
- Kilobits per second: Kb/s
- Kilobytes per second: KB/s.These units are used to determine the amount of Internet data on a site (texts, photos, videos, etc..) that can be displayed in a second.
The display speed of a page depends on:
- Weight (images, text ..etc)
- The performance of the Internet connection.
The ADSL (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line) and fiber optics connection are considered as the most effective solution to connect to the internet.
