MacOSX - Manage updates via the terminal

The goal of this short FAQ is to explain how to manage and install updates via the terminal.

The commands:
  • To check for new updates:
    sudo softwareupdate -l
  • To install all available updates:
    sudo softwareupdate -i -a
  • To install recommended updates:
    sudo softwareupdate -i -r
