Mac OS X - Show hidden files in the Finder


To enable the display of hidden files and folders in Finder, follow the below procedure:

  • Open a terminal.
  • Enter the following command:
    • defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles YES
  • Reload the Finder, using the following command:
    • killall Finder
  • As you will notice, the hidden files and folders are now visible.

To disable this feature, run the following command

  • defaults write com.apple.Finder AppleShowAllFiles NO
