How To Pin Widgets to OS X Desktop

Ask a question
In Mac OS X, widgets are only displayed when you activate the Dashboard. However, if you'd like to permanently display your favorite widgets on the desktop of your Mac, there's a simple terminal command that will allow you to pin them to your home screen.

Permanently Display Widgets on your Desktop in OS X

Open a terminal window by going into Apps > Utilities > Terminal and then run the
defaults write com.apple.dashboard devmode YES
command.

Once done, press F12 to display the Dashboard and drag the desired widget to your desktop. Be careful not to release the mouse button.

Close the Dashboard and release the mouse button to pin the widget on your desktop. Repeat the operation to add more widgets to your desktop.
