Transit View for Apple Maps

Apple Maps is shipped with a nifty feature called Transit, which is meant to help users commute more efficiently via public transport. The Transit view enables users to get an overview of the public transit lines, stations, and schedules for a given area and calculate your route options in real-time.

This guide will teach you how to make use of the opportunities offered by this new feature. Transit is available on the Maps app for iOS 9 and OSX El Capitan. Unfortunately, the availability of this feature is limited to specific metropolitan areas. Click transit to check if Transit is supported in your city.

To enable Transit view on Mac OS X El Capitan, open the Maps app and click on the Transit tab located at the top-right corner of the screen.

To enable Transit view on iOS, open the Maps app, tap on the small (i) icon displayed at the bottom-right corner of the screen and select Transit. If you'd like to use Transit to improve your morning commute, you can use the application to calculate your different route options.

Open the Map app, click on the desired location (destination) and select Directions to here to open the Directions sidebar.

Next, select the Transit tab. Here, you will find all the information to plan your trip such as the time required to reach the destination through public transportation (bus, subway, trams...) as well as your route options and schedules.
