Sometimes when you try to launch a game or program on your PC, the operation is interrupted by an error message of this type: xlive.dll not found.
This error occurs when you try to run older games or applications that require the xlive.dll and the file is missing or corrupted. The xlive.dll file is part of Games for Windows Live, an online service whose main purpose is to connect third party games and apps to Microsoft Live. A quick online search for "xlive.dll" reveals a multitude of tutorials on how to download and install missing DLL files directly on your system. However, you should avoid falling for such cheap methods as you can’t be sure if the file is legit or contains a malware.
The recommended procedure requires that you download the Games for Windows Software Setup from Microsoft’s website and then install the program on your PC.
Download the Games for Windows Software here.
Once downloaded, do a right-click on the program installer > Run as Administrator. If you are using Windows 8 or 10, you’ll also have to edit the compatibility settings. Right-click on the program installer > Properties > Compatibility tab > Compatibility mode. Tick the Run this program in compatibility mode for checkbox and then select Windows 7 from the drop down list.
Now that Games for Windows Software is installed on your PC, try to launch the faulty apps or games again.
