Delete Siri history on iPhone, iPad and Mac

Don't want Apple to keep a record of your conversations with Siri? A new option allows you to delete your conversation history.

In July 2019, Apple was strongly criticised for allowing partners to access recordings picked up by Siri. Apple has since stated that it will no longer keep audio recordings by default and that only Apple employees will be able to listen to them.

The good news is that included in the latest updates is now the option to delete your Siri recording history. However you must have the latest versions of their operating systems to make use of this. This guide will quickly explain how you can clear your Siri conversation history.

Update the operating system

First things first, you need to update your operating system to the latest version. The option to remove Siri history is only available on iOS13.2, iPadOS 13.2, watchOS 6.1, tvOS 13.2 and macOS Catalina 10.15.1 systems.

To save time, go directly to the software updates section of your device. If nothing is displayed, you are up to date. In the opposite case, you can update your device.

Change Siri options on iPhone and iPad

  • Open Settings.
  • Open the section Siri and Search.
  • Click Delete Siri and Dictation History, and then click the link again on the confirmation screen.

Change Siri options on a Mac computer

  • Open System Preferences.
  • Open the Siri section.
  • Click the Delete Siri History and Dictation link and confirm.

Change Siri options on an Apple Watch

  • Open the Settings menu.
  • Open the Siri menu.
  • Click Delete Siri and Dictation History and confirm.

Change Siri options on an Apple TV

  • Access the Settings.
  • Open the General heading.
  • Open the Siri History sub-section.
  • Click Delete Siri History and Dictation.

Modify Siri options on a HomePod

  • First, open the House app on one of your Apple devices.
  • Open the Settings menu linked to your HomePod speaker.
  • Open the Siri History sub-section.
  • Click Delete Siri History and Dictation.

Prevent Apple from keeping and listening to your requests

For more peace of mind, it is also possible to prevent the transmission of any audio content on Apple's servers.
  • Open Settings.
  • Open the Privacy section
  • At the bottom, click on the sub-section Analysis and Improvements.
  • Uncheck Enhance Siri and Dictation.
