Restrict change of background

In a large number of multinational companies across the world, changing the background of the Windows computer is restricted due to company policy. While in some companies, the employees are expected to follow the restriction, in others, the restriction on changing the background is implemented more strictly. Changes in the Windows registry for the NoChangingWallPaper key will not allow the users to change the background of the desktop. The NoChangingWallPaper key in the Windows registry must be set to 1. Setting the DWORD value to 1 will restrict any change in the background or desktop wallpaper.

This tip has been raised to show you how to configure and restrict the background change of your computer for specific purposes like company policy.

Go to menu Start and select Run.

Then type Regedit to open the registry.

Once the registry open, select the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\policies

If the file does not exist, click on Edit> New > Key. Then name the file as policies and validate.

Then right click on the new file policies and select New > KEY which you will name as ActiveDesktop.

In the right part of your Windows registry, select the value DWORD and name it as NoChangingWallPaper and the DWORD value as 1. The DWORD value 1 will restrict the change in desktop wallpaper. To reactivate change, put the value as 0.
