VLC - Problem with subtitles

When I am watching a AVI (DivX) video using VLC the .srt subtitle isn't appearing but if I play using Windows Media Player it works without any problem!
Can you please give me a solution?

Here are the steps to make for good reading sub titles with VLC media player:
  • Launch VLC Media Player
  • Drag your avi movie to VLC
  • When it starts playing, click on "Video"
  • Click on "Subtitle track"
  • Click on "Load File"
  • Browse the .srt subtitle file
  • Click open

Then the subtitle will appear!
