Ubuntu - Unable to lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock- Error

Ask a question

It may happen that upon installing a package or a new software on Ubuntu, the system prompts you with the following error message:
  • Unable to lock/var/lib/dpkg/lock-open(11 Resource temporarily unavailable).
  • Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), Is Another process using it?

  • This may imply that a process using apt is already underway, simply close or update your package manager (Synaptic Package Manager), if the problem persists open a terminal and type the following command:
  • sudo rm /var/lib/dpkg/lock
