2 install attempts to work and nothing shows recent chats

I have installed and re-installed this app 2x. Each time it seems the phone jumps ahead of what the desktop is telling me. It's confusing. I thought the 2nd time I'd slow down and the same thing. On the mobile app it adds my desktop. I get the code but when I come back it's skipped ahead on the other device??

Now I have a GUI on both devices but nothing I click on, as suggested, shows my recent chats. I've tried all the settings and devices.

Before I move on to another app can anyone decipher this issue?
