Computer went bang

Hi I took the ram out to clean it as instructed. Put it back in PC. Turned it on. Success. After trying about a dozen times previously it booted up and the screen came on next thing. PC went Bang. Did NOT blow the fuse. I have a surge protector extension cable. However. Not certain what I could do now? I might have a caddy that I might be able to take the hard drive out to retrieve the contents would you say that this 12? Yr old is Kaput?!?!?
