How to get whatsapp contacts to show on desktop instance

Hello,

I have just installed the latest version of whatsapp desktop (v 2.2314.6.0), all my chat history has gone and none of my contacts are there (everything is still ok on the phone whatsapp). The previous version worked like a treat just immediately carried across all the chat history and contacts, but apparently no more? What gives, any suggestion as to how i can at least get contacts to show up?
