Windows 7 can't detect my WD hard drive?

Hey guys!

So my Western Digital 1TB hard drive hasn't been working recently. It was a gift from my sister. I think she bought it on Amazon for $60. It was working fine for a year or so, then all of a sudden my computer stopped detecting it. I just plugged its power plug into the wall and connected it to my computer via USB and bam, no hard drive under My Computer.

I'm not sure if I did anything wrong. I haven't opened it since I might screw something up, and the cables/ports it gets plugged into are 100% fine. The hard drive doesn't work on other computers as well. Usually whenever I plug it in, there is a small, white light at the side that lets me know if it's working or not. Now it's very faint; can't see it unless you look very carefully.

There was a time when my friend accidentally plugged in my laptop's charger into it one time though. Might that be the cause of the problem?

I would appreciate any help anyone can give me. I've been at this for a while and it's driving me nuts. :(

Thank you!
