HDMI Port available on Laptop but not in sound settings

Hello,
I Have an issue which I hope someone can assist me with. I have a Dell Insprion laptop which has a connection for HDMI which I'm tring to use to watch Netflix and movies on my settop on my Dynex tv. I've been told to go to control panel and select sounds and find the HDMI setting and click on it..well I've followed the steps, the only issue is it does not display HDMI anwhere on the box..am I doing something wrong or is that my computer just doesnt offer it. I've been told if HDMI connections are available that it streams video and audio..can someone give some advise. Thanks
