CD/DVD drive is blind

Hello,

HP Pavillion cd/dvd does not see blank media or un-used disc space. I tried ti Microsoft fix, various sugesstions on the HP help forum and they didn't work. I think it's starting to wear out and my problem is how to locate a suitable replcmnt drive. the HP part # is Rx881-69001 and there seems to only a couple of refurbished units available.

Is it possible to locate another drive that will fit into the bay properly? Or do I have to stay with the original model?
