Macro to Extract from Different Workbooks & Multiple Worksheets

Hi,

i've been trying to figure out how to extract multiple data from different workbooks with multiple worksheets and paste them into a master sheet. Like copying new data or data for a specific date range from different logs - for daily reports using macros? But if worksheet have different assigned columns for different headers - headers though are all the same, just the column assignments are different.

I'm only new in macros so it would be nice if someone can give a run-down/tutorial as to how to do these things?

will it affect the macro if there are two different types of excel? or versions? like .xls and .xlsx?

please help.
