Getting sound laptop/tv hdmi hookup

Thanks for the info . Went to control panel (windows 8) & clicked on IDT AUDIO CONTROL PANEL and set hdmi as my default. When the hdmi cable is hooked up the sound comes out my tv. When I remove the hdmi cable the sound is back on my laptop.

Don't know how to adjust the volume. Any help? When I'm by myself I use my wireless headset. This is not a problem since it has a volume control.
