Odd connection issue

Hello all,

I have an odd issue connecting to the internet that I was hoping I may get help with. I have my PS3 hard wired into my modem. When I start the PS3, it will not connect to the internet at all, until I do a connection test, then it works perfect, no interruptions and everything streams just fine. Is there a reason I have to go through this extra step every time I turn it on?
